Saint Cormac of Cashel, also known as Saint Cormac mac Cuilennáin, was an influential figure in Irish Catholicism during the early medieval period. He is revered as the first bishop of Cashel, Ireland, and is often celebrated as a close friend and contemporary of Saint Columba of Iona. Born in 836, Cormac was of royal descent, the son of Cuilennán, who was the King of Munster. During his early years, Cormac received a well-rounded education, which included the study of Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. He displayed great intellectual prowess and an insatiable curiosity, which set the foundation for his later contributions to the Church. Cormac's close association with Saint Columba began when he joined the monastery at Durrow. Here, he immersed himself in the study of scripture and theology, deepening his understanding of the faith.
