San Cugat del Vallés, también conocido por diversos nombres como Cobad, Cocoba, Cocobas, Cophan, Cougat, Covade, Cucao, Cucufa, Cucufas, Cucufat, Cucufate, Cucuphas, Cucuphat, Culgat, Guinefort, Gulnefort, Qaqophas, Qoqofas, Quiquefat y Quiquenfat, nació en una familia ilustre en el Norte de África. Para escapar de las persecuciones del emperador Diocleciano, huyó a España. Durante su estancia en España, San Cugat se convirtió en maestro espiritual de dos santas notables, Santa Juliana de Mataró y Santa Semproniana de Mataró. Sus enseñanzas y guía desempeñaron un papel significativo en su desarrollo religioso.
