Saint Gregory Nazianzen the Elder, also known as Gregory of Nazianzus the Elder, was born around the year 276 in Nazianzos, located in Cappadocia, Asia Minor. Little is known about his early life before his conversion to Christianity. He spent the first fifty years of his life as a pagan and worked as a government official during most of his adult years. At some point, Gregory married a devout Christian woman named Saint Nonna. It was through her influence and dedication that he was eventually converted to Christianity in 325. This marked a significant turning point in Gregory's life and set him on a path of deep devotion to the Christian faith. Gregory and Nonna were blessed with three children, who all became notable figures in Christianity themselves: Saint Gregory Nazianzen, Saint Caesarius of Nazianzen, and Saint Gorgonius.
