Saint Marcellinus the Martyr, brother of Saint Agrarius the Martyr, was a devoted servant of the Church in the Roman province of North Africa during the early fourth century. As an imperial official, he held a position of authority under the Roman Empire, yet his fidelity to the Catholic faith superseded his civic duties. He courageously and firmly opposed the Donatist heresy, a schismatic movement that had taken root in North Africa and rejected the authority of the universal Church. His unwavering stance against this error, which threatened the unity of the Christian community, made him a target.
