Saint Modestus the Deacon, venerated as a martyr of the early Church, lived during the period of intense persecution under the Roman Emperor Diocletian (reigned 284–305 AD). His precise birthplace and date remain unknown, as historical records of his early life have not survived. He served faithfully within the Christian community as a deacon, a role dedicated to assisting the clergy, administering sacraments, and caring for the poor and vulnerable.
