Biografía

Saint Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan was a Vietnamese Catholic priest and one of the Martyrs of Vietnam. He was born in Ngoc Ðông, Hung Yên, Vietnam in 1766. Very little is known about his early life and education, but he dedicated himself to serving God and the Church. Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan entered the apostolic vicariate of East Tonkin and was ordained a priest. He devoted himself to spreading the teachings of Christianity and ministering to the faithful in the region. At that time, Vietnam was under the rule of an oppressive regime that persecuted Christians and sought to eradicate the Catholic faith from the country. As a result, Saint Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan faced constant danger and threats to his life for his unwavering commitment to his faith. Despite these challenges, he continued to celebrate Mass, administer the sacraments, and provide spiritual guidance to the Catholic community. On 15 July 1838, Saint Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan was martyred for his faith in Nam Ðinh, Vietnam. He was executed, joining the ranks of the many Vietnamese Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their beliefs. These martyrs are known for their extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith. The recognition and veneration of Saint Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan's martyrdom began with the decree of Pope Leo XIII on 2 July 1899. The Pope acknowledged his martyrdom and declared him venerable. A year later, on 27 May 1900, Pope Leo XIII beatified him, recognizing his heroic virtues and sacrifice. Finally, on 19 June 1988, Saint Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan was canonized by Pope John Paul II, officially receiving the title of saint within the Catholic Church. His canonization serves as an inspiration for the faithful, reminding them of the enduring power of faith and the willingness to sacrifice everything for the love of God. Although not associated with any specific patronage, Saint Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan stands as a symbol of courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the Catholic faith. His life and martyrdom continue to inspire Catholics around the world, especially in Vietnam, where he is venerated as one of the courageous Martyrs of Vietnam. The feast days of Saint Phêrô Nguyen Bá Tuan are celebrated on 15 July and 24 November along with the other martyrs of Vietnam.
