Biography

Saint Amandus of Boixe, also known as Amantius, Amant, and Amand, led a remarkable life dedicated to God and the service of others. Born into a family that desired him to pursue business prospects, Amandus had a different calling in mind. His decision to take up arms against the Saracens highlights his initial desire to confront evil and defend Christianity. However, a divine intervention redirected his path towards a different kind of service. When Amandus embarked on a journey to join the front lines against the Saracens, his ship was unexpectedly blown back to shore. This event served as a sign to him, an indication that he was not meant to be a soldier. Taking it as a divine directive, he decided to renounce worldly possessions and embarked on a journey of spiritual transformation. Amandus commenced his new life by dedicating himself to solitude as a hermit. In seclusion, he sought a deeper connection with God and developed a profound understanding of the Christian faith. Through prayer, contemplation, and self-reflection, Amandus strengthened his spiritual resolve and gained invaluable insights that would later guide him in his future endeavors. After his hermitic phase, Amandus felt the calling to communal life and decided to become a monk.
