Biography

Blessed Amado García Sánchez was a Vincentian priest who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. Born on 29 April 1903 in Moscardón, Teruel, Spain, he dedicated his life to the service of God and others.

Amado García Sánchez joined the Vincentian Congregation, an order known for its commitment to evangelization and serving the poor. He embraced a life of prayer, humility, and charity, following in the footsteps of Saint Vincent de Paul, the founder of the Vincentians.

In the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Father García Sánchez fearlessly defended the Catholic faith against persecution and oppression. As a result, he became a target for those who sought to eliminate the influence of the Church. Despite the dangers and risks involved, he continued to minister to the spiritual needs of the faithful, providing hope and solace in the midst of the chaos.

Tragically, on 24 October 1936, Father García Sánchez was martyred in Gijón, Asturias, Spain. His unwavering faith and refusal to renounce his beliefs in the face of hostility led to his brutal execution. Although his life was cut short, his courage and sacrifice served as a powerful testament to his love for God and his dedication to the Catholic Church.

Blessed Amado García Sánchez was recognized for his martyrdom and venerated by Pope Francis on 5 July 2013 when the decree of martyrdom was announced. His beatification followed on 13 October 2013, as Pope Francis acknowledged his heroic virtues and sanctity.

Today, Blessed Amado García Sánchez is remembered as a shining example of unwavering faith and commitment to the Catholic Church. His life inspires individuals to follow the path of selflessness and service, just as he did during his time as a Vincentian priest. The feast days of 24 October and 6 November, commemorating the Vincentian Martyrs, honor his memory and allow the faithful to seek his intercession and guidance.
