Biography
Blessed Andrés Rueda Rojas, also known as Blessed Andrés Rueda, was a devout layman in the diocese of Córdoba, Spain. Born on July 8, 1895, in Pedro Abad, Córdoba, Spain, he lived a humble and exemplary life dedicated to his faith.
Andrés Rueda Rojas faced tremendous challenges during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War. Despite the difficulties, he remained steadfast in his Catholic beliefs, which eventually led to his martyrdom. On August 10, 1936, in his hometown of Pedro Abad, Andrés Rueda Rojas was brutally killed for his unwavering commitment to the Catholic Church.
Recognizing the heroic virtue and sacrificial death of Andrés Rueda Rojas, Pope Francis declared him venerable on November 23, 2020. This decree acknowledged the exceptional holiness displayed by Andrés, who willingly sacrificed his life for his faith.
On October 16, 2021, Pope Francis elevated Andrés Rueda Rojas to the rank of Blessed, bestowing him with the recognition of beatification. The beatification ceremony was held at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain, and was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro.
As a layman, Andrés Rueda Rojas did not hold any official representation within the Catholic Church. Nevertheless, his exemplary life serves as an inspiration and testament to the power of faith in the face of adversity.
