Biography

Blessed Angelus De Scarpetti, also known as Angelus of Borgo San Sepolcro, Angelus of Sansepolcro, or Angelo, was born in Borgo San Sepolcro (modern Sansepolcro), Italy around the year 1254. He was an Augustinian friar who dedicated his life to the service of God and the welfare of others.

Angelus of Borgo San Sepolcro became well-known for his piety and holiness from an early age. He was a contemporary and fellow student of Saint Nicholas of Tolentino, another renowned friar of the time. Angelus proved to be a gifted preacher and missionary, and his talents led him to embark on a mission to England.

During his time in England, Angelus preached the Gospel fervently and contributed to building monasteries. His tireless efforts in spreading the teachings of Christianity earned him a reputation as a dedicated missionary. However, it was his reputation as a miracle worker that truly set him apart.

One remarkable account of his miraculous intervention occurred when Angelus pleaded on behalf of a man who had been condemned to death. Despite his pleas, the authorities ignored Angelus's intervention and proceeded with the execution. Undeterred, Angelus promptly performed a stunning miracle by bringing the man back to life. This incredible event solidified Angelus's reputation as a miracle worker and strengthened the faith of those who witnessed it.

Beyond this notable event, Angelus of Borgo San Sepolcro's life was marked by selfless dedication to others and a deep commitment to his religious calling. His numerous acts of kindness and compassion earned him the respect and admiration of both his fellow friars and the communities he served.

Blessed Angelus De Scarpetti continued his ministry in Borgo San Sepolcro until his death around the year 1306. His legacy lived on through the stories of his miracles and the impact he had on the lives of those he encountered. Recognizing his exceptional holiness, Pope Benedict XV beatified Angelus on July 27, 1921.

Today, Blessed Angelus De Scarpetti is venerated as a model of faith, devotion, and selflessness. His feast day is celebrated on February 15th each year, a day dedicated to honoring his life and his contributions to the Christian faith.

Though no specific representation is mentioned in the available information, it is common for depictions of friars to include elements symbolizing their religious order or missionary work, such as the habit of the Augustinians or a book representing their dedication to preaching and teaching.

Blessed Angelus De Scarpetti's life serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us of the transformative power of faith, the importance of selfless service, and the potential for miracles in our lives.
