Biography

Blessed Anna Michelotti, also known as Giovanna Francesca or Giovanna Francesca della Visitazione, was born on 29 August 1843 in Annecy, Haute-Savoie, which was part of the kingdom of Sardinia (now part of modern France). Sadly, Anna's father passed away when she was very young, leaving her family in poverty. Despite their financial struggles, Anna's family always made time to care for those less fortunate than themselves.

Anna's religious journey began when she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Saint Charles in Lyon, France, in 1863. At that time, she took the name Sister Giovanna Francesca of the Visitation. Tragedy struck Anna once again when her mother and brother passed away. Following the dissolution of the Sisters' Congregation in 1871, Sister Giovanna temporarily resided with her father's family.

In 1874, Sister Giovanna Michelotti embarked on a remarkable mission to care for the sick poor. She founded the religious congregation known as the Little Servants of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with the intention of dedicating her life to providing assistance to those in need. The work of the Little Servants has continued to thrive and make a positive impact in the world up to the present day.

Blessed Anna Michelotti's selfless dedication and love for the marginalized made her known and revered by many. Her compassion knew no bounds as she tirelessly served the sick poor, embodying the virtues of humility, charity, and devotion. Anna's unwavering commitment to her work and the people she served left a lasting impact on those she touched.

On 1 February 1888, Anna Michelotti passed away in Turin, Italy, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. Her relics are enshrined at the Little Servants mother house in Valsalice, Turin, serving as a tangible reminder of her saintly presence.

Blessed Anna Michelotti was recognized for her heroic virtues on 15 December 1966 by Pope Paul VI, who decreed her veneration. She was officially beatified by Pope Paul VI on 1 November 1975, acknowledging her remarkable life and holiness.

As a devoted and humble servant of God, Blessed Anna Michelotti continues to inspire and guide the faithful through her deep love for the less fortunate. Her life serves as a testament to the transformative power of selfless service and devotion to the marginalized, exemplifying the true essence of Christian vocation.
