Blessed Arnaldo de Prades: Feast Day January 26

Biography

Blessed Arnaldo de Prades, also known as Blessed Arnaldo de Les Algars, was born in the small village of Prades in Catalonia, Spain in the late 12th century. Although little is known about his early life, it is believed that he worked as a barber in his local community before experiencing a profound spiritual transformation.

At some point in his life, Arnaldo felt a strong calling to religious life, prompting him to join the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, commonly known as the Mercedarians. The Mercedarian Order was founded in Barcelona in 1218 by Saint Peter Nolasco with the purpose of ransoming Christian captives who were held as slaves by Muslim forces.

Arnaldo's dedication and fervor as a Mercedarian friar quickly earned him recognition within the Order. He became a noted preacher and evangelist, passionately spreading the message of faith and redemption.
