Biography

Blessed Arnulf of Villers, also known as Arnulf Cornibout, Arnulph, Arnulphus, or Arnoul, was born around 1180 in Brussels, Belgium. He initially lived a wasted youth, straying from a path of virtue. However, at the age of 22, he experienced a profound conversion that completely transformed his life. Motivated by a deep desire to atone for his past sins, he joined the Cistercian order as a lay brother in the monastery of Villers, Belgium.

In the monastery, Arnulf dedicated himself wholeheartedly to a life of asceticism and charity. He embraced a strict regimen of prayer, fasting, and penance, seeking to distance himself from his previous waywardness. Arnulf's commitment to his spiritual journey and his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary became well-known within the Cistercian community.

Arnulf lived a life of exemplary holiness, demonstrating a selfless and compassionate nature towards those in need. His acts of charity were numerous, as he sought to alleviate the suffering of others and bring consolation to the afflicted.
