Biography

Blessed Bartolomé Cantador González was a married layman of the diocese of Córdoba, Spain, who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on June 10, 1892, in Belalcázar, Córdoba, Spain. Despite being a layman, Bartolomé led a devout and exemplary Christian life, known for his strong faith and commitment to his family.

During the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, Bartolomé courageously stood firm in his beliefs, refusing to renounce his faith. His unwavering commitment to Catholicism led to his tragic martyrdom. On August 15, 1936, in his hometown of Belalcázar, Córdoba, Bartolomé was brutally executed for his refusal to abandon his religious convictions.

Bartolomé Cantador González's sacrifice did not go unnoticed, as his virtuous life and martyrdom inspired many. The local faithful began to venerate him as a witness to the faith, recognizing him as a blessed. On November 23, 2020, Pope Francis officially acknowledged Bartolomé's martyrdom with a decree, marking him as a venerable.
