Biography

Blessed Bartolomé Rodríguez Soria, also known simply as Bartolomé Rodríguez, was a Catholic priest in the diocese of Albacete, Spain. He was born on September 7, 1894, in Ríopar, Albacete. His life was tragically cut short during the Spanish Civil War when he was martyred on July 29, 1936, in Munera, Albacete.

Bartolomé Rodríguez dedicated his life to the service of God and the Church as a priest. He was a deeply spiritual man, known for his commitment to spreading the teachings of the Catholic faith and ministering to the spiritual needs of his parishioners. Despite the challenging times of political unrest and religious persecution, he remained steadfast in his vocation and unwavering in his faith.

During the Spanish Civil War, which lasted from 1936 to 1939, many clergy, including Bartolomé Rodríguez, faced persecution due to their allegiance to the Catholic Church. Inspired by his unwavering devotion, he refused to renounce his faith despite the immense pressure and threats he faced.

On July 29, 1936, Bartolomé Rodríguez's unwavering faith in Christ ultimately led to his martyrdom. It was during this time that he was brutally murdered for his refusal to abandon his religious beliefs. By sacrificing his life for the sake of his faith, he became a true witness and a shining example of unwavering courage and devotion to God.

In recognition of his martyrdom and the apparent holiness of his life, Bartolomé Rodríguez was venerated by the Catholic Church. On April 28, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, officially recognizing his Martyrdom and heroic virtue. Subsequently, on October 28, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, bestowing on him the title of Blessed.

Today, Blessed Bartolomé Rodríguez Soria is remembered and celebrated within the Catholic Church for his steadfast faith, selfless devotion, and ultimate sacrifice. His feast day is celebrated on July 29th, the day of his martyrdom, in commemoration of his extraordinary witness to the Christian faith. He serves as an inspiration to all those who face persecution, reminding them of the importance of standing firm in the face of adversity and remaining faithful to the teachings of Christ.
