Biography

Blessed Benedict Revelli, also known as Benedetto, was a Benedictine monk hailing from Santa Maria dei Fonti, Italy. He is revered as a hermit who lived on the island of Gallinaria in the Gulf of Genoa, Italy. Born in an unspecified year, he dedicated his life to a strict monastic existence, seeking solitude and contemplation.

Benedict's holiness and wisdom caught the attention of his fellow monks, and he was eventually elected as the Bishop of Albenga, Italy in the year 870. In this role, he served the people of Albenga with great humility and devotion, striving to guide them closer to God.

Not much is known about Blessed Benedict Revelli's physical appearance or representation in artwork. However, he is venerated on February 12th each year, the day of his feast.

After living a life of devotion, Blessed Benedict Revelli passed away around the year 900. He was laid to rest at the Church of Santa Maria de Fontibus, where his relics were initially enshrined. Over the centuries, his tomb became a place of pilgrimage and devotion.

In 1409, a chapel dedicated to Blessed Benedict Revelli was constructed, housing his revered relics. These relics were deeply venerated by the faithful, and their popularity prompted the construction of a new wooden reliquary in 1614 after the collapse of the old church.

Blessed Benedict Revelli's spiritual influence continued to grow, and his cultus, or the public veneration of a holy person, was confirmed by Pope Gregory XVI. This beatification solidified his status as a blessed in the Catholic Church.

Although specific incidents or miracles associated with him are not mentioned, it is believed that Blessed Benedict Revelli's life was marked by his devout dedication to God, his commitment to the monastic life, and his pastoral care for the people of Albenga. As a bishop, he exemplified the virtues of humility, wisdom, and selflessness.

Blessed Benedict Revelli's legacy lives on through the annual celebration of his feast day, where the faithful gather to honor his memory, seek his intercession, and draw inspiration from his holy example.
