Biography
Blessed Braulio Álvarez Palacín, also known as Camerino, was a devout Catholic monk and a member of the Marist Brothers of the Schools. He was born on 27 March 1900 in Villamedianilla, a small village in Burgos, Spain. From an early age, Braulio felt a calling to the religious life and dedicated himself to a life of prayer, contemplation, and service to others.
After joining the Marist Brothers, Braulio embraced the values of education and worked diligently to provide a quality education to young students. He was known for his kindness, compassion, and sincere devotion to his vocation. As a monk, he sought to inspire young minds to not only excel in their studies but also to deepen their faith and love for God.
Unfortunately, the Spanish Civil War brought a wave of religious persecution, during which many priests, monks, and nuns were targeted and martyred for their faith. Braulio Álvarez Palacín was among those who faced persecution during this turbulent period.
On 24 July 1936, Braulio paid the ultimate price for his unwavering dedication to his faith. He was martyred in Madrid, Spain, as a result of the ongoing violence and hostility towards Catholic religious figures. His martyrdom was a testament to his steadfast faith and commitment to his religious beliefs, even in the face of danger.
Braulio Álvarez Palacín's extensive knowledge, dedication, and commitment to education as a means of instilling Christian values and fostering spiritual growth made him an inspiration to both his fellow Marist Brothers and the students he touched through his teachings.
Recognizing his sacrifice and virtuous life, on 3 June 2013, Pope Francis proclaimed Braulio Álvarez Palacín as venerable through a decree of martyrology. Later, on 13 October 2013, in a beatification ceremony presided over by Pope Francis, Braulio was officially declared blessed, a recognition of his holiness and virtuous life.
The Feast Day of Blessed Braulio Álvarez Palacín is celebrated on 24 July each year, the anniversary of his martyrdom. This day serves as a reminder of his courage, faithfulness, and commitment to following the path of Christ, even in the face of adversity.
Blessed Braulio Álvarez Palacín's life and martyrdom serve as a shining example of selflessness, dedication, and unwavering faith. May we be inspired by his courage and strive to live our lives with the same conviction and love for God.
