Biography

Blessed Bronislava of Poland, also known as Bronislava Odrowaz, Bronislava of Cracow, and Bronislava of Kamien, was born as Bronislawa Odrowaz in the year 1200 in Kamien, Lubelskie, Poland. She was the daughter of Count Stanislaus and Countess Anna of Prandata-Odrowaz, coming from a noble lineage. Bronislava was related to Saint Hyacinth and Blessed Czeslaw, which influenced her spiritual journey.

Bronislava entered the religious life and became a Premonstratensian nun, committing herself to a life dedicated to prayer and service to God. She lived as a hermitess, seeking solitude and deepening her relationship with the Divine. Her intense devotion and strong faith were evident throughout her life.

At the time of Saint Hyacinth's death, Bronislava had a profound vision. She saw the Blessed Virgin Mary welcoming Saint Hyacinth into heaven, a significant spiritual experience that further affirmed her own religious vocation and strengthened her resolve.

Blessed Bronislava's life was marked by humility, simplicity, and selflessness. She lived a life of exemplary virtue and embodied the teachings of Christ. Despite experiencing many challenges and hardships, she persevered in her commitment to God and remained steadfast in her chosen path.

Blessed Bronislava devoted her days to prayer, meditation, and contemplation. Her deep spirituality and love for God was a constant source of inspiration to those around her, as she shared her knowledge and wisdom with those seeking guidance.

On the 29th of August, 1259, Blessed Bronislava peacefully passed away in Zwierzyniec, Lubelskie, Poland, due to natural causes. Her remains were initially laid to rest in her convent church in 1261. Tragically, the church was later destroyed during a Swedish invasion, and her relics were lost.

However, the relics of Blessed Bronislava were eventually rediscovered in the 17th century, bringing renewed attention and veneration to her memory. Her devotion and sanctity were recognized by Pope Gregory XVI, who beatified her on the 23rd of August, 1839, confirming the cultus (popular devotion).

Blessed Bronislava's feast days are celebrated on the 29th and 30th of August, as well as the 1st and 2nd of September in certain calendars. Additionally, the Archdiocese of Warmia, Poland, venerates her on the 2nd of September.
