Biography

Blessed Cirilo Illera Del Olmo, also known as Father Teodoro, was born on 29 March 1883 in Las Quintanillas, Burgos, Spain. He grew up under the influence of his uncle, who was a priest, and this early exposure to the priesthood inspired him to dedicate his life to serving God and His Church.

In 1901, Cirilo joined the Congregation of San Pedro ad Víncula in Barcelona, Spain, a religious community known for its commitment to education and dedicated service to the poor. With his deep faith and love for teaching, Cirilo pursued a vocation that combined his passion for education and his desire to serve God.

After years of study and formation, Cirilo was ordained a priest in Burgos, Spain in 1914. He embarked on a teaching career, using his intellectual abilities and compassionate heart to guide and educate young minds. His dedication to his students left a lasting impact, shaping their lives not only academically but also spiritually.

Cirilo's exemplary service and leadership skills led him to be appointed as the Superior of his house within the Congregation. He was recognized for his exceptional abilities and commitment, which in turn propelled him to be elected as the Councilor-General of the Congregation in 1931. This role allowed him to influence and guide the Congregation's direction and mission.

In 1936, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Cirilo was appointed as the Superior of the Sant Feliu de Llobregat convent in Barcelona. However, amidst the chaos and religious persecution during this time, his commitment to his faith and his duties would lead to his ultimate sacrifice.

Father Cirilo Illera Del Olmo, along with his fellow brothers, was martyred on 27 July 1936 in PallejÖ, Barcelona, Spain. The Spanish Civil War claimed the lives of numerous religious figures who stood firm in their faith, refusing to renounce their beliefs even in the face of great adversity.

Recognizing the heroic virtue and sacrifice of Blessed Cirilo, Pope Francis issued a decree of martyrdom on 18 December 2017, venerated him as a blessed. On 10 November 2018, Pope Francis further elevated him by declaring his beatification. The beatification ceremony was celebrated in the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Angelo Becciu.

Although not much information is provided about Blessed Cirilo's specific representation or any additional details, his brief biography showcases a man who dedicated his life to God, served the Church, and ultimately laid down his life for his faith.
