Biography

Blessed Cristúfol Baqués Almirall, also known as Crispi, was a Catholic priest and a member of the Diocesan Laborer Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He was born on March 20, 1885, in Olesa de Bonesvalls, Barcelona, Spain. Dedicated to his faith from a young age, Baqués Almirall pursued his vocation and was ordained as a priest. He devoted himself to serving the faithful and spreading the teachings of Christ.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Baqués Almirall remained steadfast in his commitment to his beliefs despite the dangers and challenges he faced. As the war raged on, religious persecution intensified, targeting priests and religious figures. Baqués Almirall's unwavering resolve to stand with the Church led to his martyrdom.

On August 20, 1936, Baqués Almirall was martyred on the L‚ÄôArrabasada highway in Barcelona, Spain. He courageously refused to renounce his faith and was ultimately executed for his allegiance to the Catholic Church. His sacrifice serves as a testament to his unwavering dedication to Christ and the Church, even in the face of grave adversity.

Recognizing his heroism and martyrdom, Pope Francis venerated Blessed Cristúfol Baqués Almirall on March 27, 2013, through a decree of martyrdom. His beatification followed on October 13, 2013, with a ceremony presided over by Pope Francis.

Although no specific representations have been attributed to Blessed Cristúfol Baqués Almirall, he is remembered and revered on his feast day, which is observed on August 20th.
