Blessed Dario Hernández Morató, also known as Dario Hernandez, was born on 25 October 1880 in Valencia, Spain. He entered the Society of Jesus, commonly known as the Jesuits, in 1896, displaying a strong calling to dedicate his life to God and serve the Church. After completing his studies and formation, he was ordained as a priest.
Father Dario served as the rector of the Jesuit house in Valencia, Spain, where he showed great dedication to his work and exemplary pastoral care. He was known for his deep spirituality, intellectual gifts, and compassionate nature, which touched the lives of many in his community.
Tragically, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Dario and many other Catholics faced persecution due to their faith. On 29 September 1936, Father Dario Hernández Morató was martyred in the Picadero de Paterna, Valencia, Spain.
Despite the dangers and threats during this time, he remained steadfast in his commitment to Christ and the Church until his last breath.
In recognition of his unwavering faith and martyrdom, Father Dario was venerated on 20 December 1999 by Pope John Paul II. The Pope recognized his heroic virtue and the ultimate sacrifice he made for his Catholic faith. The beatification ceremony took place on 11 March 2001, also officiated by Pope John Paul II, elevating Father Dario Hernández Morató to the rank of Blessed.
