Biography

Blessed Eusebio Roldán Vielva, also known as Brother Eusebio Andrés, was a devout Catholic and a member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. He was born on 15th December 1895 in Nava de Santullán, a small town in Palencia, Spain. From a young age, Eusebio demonstrated a deep love for God and a strong commitment to his faith.

At the age of 15, Eusebio entered the religious life and joined the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De La Salle Brothers. This Catholic religious congregation focuses on providing education to the less fortunate, particularly in the field of primary and secondary education. Eusebio embraced the mission of the Institute wholeheartedly and dedicated himself to teaching and guiding young minds towards the path of knowledge and virtue.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Eusebio's unyielding faith and devotion to his vocation were put to the ultimate test. As the war engulfed Spain, the Catholic Church and its members became targets of persecution by the anti-Catholic factions. Eusebio, faithful to his religious calling, refused to renounce his faith and continued to fulfill his duties as a teacher and mentor, even under dangerous circumstances.

On 17th November 1936, in Barcelona, Spain, Eusebio Roldán Vielva was martyred for his unwavering commitment to the Catholic Church. It is believed that he was executed solely because of his religious beliefs. His brave sacrifice and steadfast devotion to his faith earned him the crown of martyrdom.

In recognition of the sanctity and heroism displayed by Blessed Eusebio, he was venerated on 22nd June 2004 by Pope John Paul II, who declared him a martyr through a decree. Later, on 28th October 2007, Pope Benedict XVI beatified him, officially recognizing his martyrdom.

Blessed Eusebio Roldán Vielva is remembered for his example of unwavering faith, selflessness, and dedication to the cause of education. He serves as an inspiration for all those who strive to live out their faith with courage and conviction, especially in times of adversity. His feast day is celebrated on 17th November each year, a day to honor his memory and seek his intercession.
