Biography

Blessed Facundo Escanciano Tejerina, also known as Aurelio of Ocejo, was a Franciscan Capuchin monk who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 4th February 1881 in Ocejo, León, Spain.

Facundo Escanciano Tejerina led a life dedicated to God and the service of others. He entered the Capuchin Order and embraced the Franciscan ideals of poverty, humility, and simplicity. As a Capuchin monk, he espoused a life of prayer, penance, and charity, seeking to imitate the example of St. Francis of Assisi.

In the turbulent times of the Spanish Civil War, when religious persecution was rampant, Facundo Escanciano Tejerina remained steadfast in his commitment to his faith. He courageously defended the principles of justice, peace, and religious freedom, despite the risks and dangers he faced.

On 17th August 1936, in the city of Madrid, Facundo Escanciano Tejerina was martyred for his unwavering faith. He endured suffering and ultimately gave his life for his belief in Christ. His martyrdom stands as a testimony to his deep faith, unshakeable commitment, and unwavering love for God.
