Blessed Francisco García Balanza, a layman in the diocese of Cartagena, Spain, was born on 1901 in Cartagena, Murcia, Spain. He lived during a turbulent period in Spain's history, marked by the Spanish Civil War. Francisco was a devoted member of the Association of the Sons of Mary of the Miraculous Medal, a lay organization dedicated to spreading devotion to the Virgin Mary and her miraculous intercession.
