Biography

Blessed Genari Pinyol Ricard was a member of the Claretians and was professed on 15 August 1931. He was born on 8 September 1914 in Els Torms, Lleida, Spain. Genari was a devout Catholic who dedicated his life to serving God and spreading the teachings of the Church.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Genari became a victim of the religious persecution that plagued the country. On 27 August 1936, at the young age of 21, he was martyred in La Floresta, Lleida. His unwavering faith and commitment to his beliefs led to his brutal execution by those hostile to Christianity.

Despite his short life, Genari's sacrifice and steadfastness in the face of persecution earned him recognition as a martyr. He is now remembered as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs, commemorated on 1 February. The feast day in honor of Genari is also celebrated on 27 August, coinciding with the day of his martyrdom.

Genari Pinyol Ricard's virtues and martyrdom were officially recognized by the Catholic Church on 21 December 2016 when Pope Francis declared him venerable. Then, on 21 October 2017, the Holy Father presided over his beatification ceremony at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification was conducted under the authority of Archbishop Angelo Amato, affirming Genari's blessed status in the Church.

As a Claretian brother, Genari's life exemplified the values of his religious order - dedication to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, missionary zeal, and a commitment to education and social welfare. His story serves as an inspiration to all who strive to follow God's calling, even in the face of adversity. May Blessed Genari Pinyol Ricard continue to intercede for us and inspire us in our faith journey.
