Blessed Godfrey of Cappenberg, a nobleman of illustrious lineage descended from Charlemagne through his father and the dukes of Swabia through his mother, lived as a wealthy count in Westphalia with extensive lands. Married to a noblewoman, he initially led a life of secular privilege. However, his path transformed profoundly through the influence of Saint Norbert of Xanten, who brought him to an active faith.
