Biography
Blessed Grzegorz Bolesław Frąckowiak, also known as Bolesław Frąckowiak, Gregory Frąckowiak, or Gregorio Frąckowiak, was a Polish friar in the Society of the Divine Word. Born on July 18, 1911, in Lowęcice, Wielkopolskie, Poland, he dedicated his life to serving God and his fellow human beings.
Grzegorz entered the Society of the Divine Word, which is a religious congregation focused on missionary work, in his early years. He embraced a life of prayer, study, and service, deeply committed to spreading the message of love and peace. He exemplified the virtues of compassion, humility, and selflessness, becoming an inspiration to those around him.
During World War II, when Poland was occupied by the Nazis, Blessed Grzegorz Bolesław Frąckowiak fearlessly stood up against the atrocities committed by the regime. His strong faith guided him in resisting the evil forces that sought to harm humanity. He aided and provided solace to those affected by the war, becoming a beacon of hope in a time of darkness.
Tragically, the Nazis captured Grzegorz in Dresden, Saxony, Germany. On May 5, 1943, he was sentenced to death and executed by guillotine, willingly sacrificing his own life for his beliefs. His martyrdom demonstrated his unwavering dedication to the Gospel values of love, justice, and dignity for all.
The heroic virtue and sacrificial death of Blessed Grzegorz Bolesław Frąckowiak did not go unrecognized. On March 26, 1999, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable, acknowledging his sanctity and exemplary life. Just a few months later, on June 13, 1999, the same pope beatified him, affirming that he now enjoys the glory of heaven and can be venerated as a blessed.
Blessed Grzegorz Bolesław Frąckowiak's feast days are celebrated on May 5 and June 12, along with the 108 Martyrs of World War II. His courageous witness continues to inspire Christians to live out their faith with unwavering commitment and to stand up against injustice and oppression.
