Biography

Blessed Isidoro Fernández Rubio was a married layman hailing from the diocese of Córdoba, Spain. He was born in 1887 and lived a devout and righteous life until his untimely death on 15th August 1936 in Villaralto, Córdoba, Spain. Isidoro, along with countless others, became a victim of the Spanish Civil War, losing his life due to his unwavering faith.

Isidoro lived during a tumultuous period in Spain's history, as political and ideological tensions ran high. Despite the challenging circumstances, Isidoro remained steadfast in his commitment to his Catholic faith. He prioritized his relationship with God and devoted himself wholeheartedly to his family and community.

On 23rd November 2020, Pope Francis recognized his martyrdom in a decree, acknowledging both the sanctity of his life and the unjust circumstances surrounding his death. Isidoro was beatified on 16th October 2021, in a solemn ceremony held at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. The beatification recognition was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, a representative of Pope Francis.
