Biography

Blessed Joan Huguet Cardona was born on 28 January 1913 in Alaior, Minorca, in the Islas Baleares, Spain. He was ordained as a priest for the diocese of Minorca on 6 June 1936. Unfortunately, his life was cut short during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War when he was martyred for his faith.

In July 1936, Blessed Joan Huguet Cardona met his tragic fate in Ferreries, Minorca. He bravely stood firm in his Catholic beliefs and refused to renounce his faith in the face of persecution and violence. This steadfast commitment to his religious principles ultimately led to his martyrdom.

His exemplary life and sacrificial death inspired countless individuals, further strengthening their own faith. Recognizing his courage and dedication, Pope Benedict XVI declared him venerable on 10 May 2012, acknowledging his martyrdom. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, officially bestowing upon him the title of "Blessed."
