Biography
Blessed John Roche, a humble waterman of Elizabethan England, is remembered for his steadfast faith and courageous martyrdom. Though his exact birth date and place remain unrecorded, his life was defined by service to the Catholic Church during a period of intense persecution. As a servant to Saint Margaret Ward, he demonstrated profound devotion through his actions. His most notable deed occurred when he aided the condemned priest, Father Richard Watson, by meeting him outside Newgate Prison in a boat. Roche exchanged his working clothes with the priest, enabling Watson’s escape while Roche himself was pursued. Captured for his act of defiance, Roche was condemned to death for aiding a Catholic priest. Offer
