He was born on January 5, 1891, in the small town of Los Blázquez, located in the province of Córdoba. From an early age, José exhibited a strong faith and a desire to serve God and His people.

After completing his studies in theology and philosophy, José was ordained as a priest. He dedicated his life to serving the community of Belalcázar, a town in the province of Córdoba where he was assigned. Beloved by his parishioners, he tirelessly ministered to their spiritual needs, offering guidance, support, and the sacraments.

Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, religious persecution was widespread, and many priests and religious individuals were targeted. On August 20, 1936, Father José Camacho Moreno was martyred for his unwavering commitment to his faith. He was executed in Belalcázar, facing persecution and martyrdom as a result of his allegiance to the Catholic Church.

Father José's steadfast faith and courage in the face of persecution have been recognized and venerated by the Catholic Church. On November 23, 2020, he was declared venerable by Pope Francis, signifying that he lived a life of heroic virtue. Then, on October 16, 2021, Pope Francis proceeded to beatify him, recognizing his martyrdom. The Beatification recognition ceremony was held at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain, with Cardinal Marcello Semeraro presiding over the celebration.

As a blessed, José Camacho Moreno is now considered a model of faith for Catholics around the world. His feast day is celebrated annually on August 20th, the day of his martyrdom. Catholics may turn to him in prayer for his intercession, guidance, and inspiration, especially in times of persecution and adversity.
