Biography

Blessed José María Llópez Mora, also known as Father Recaredo María of Torrent, was a Catholic priest and a member of the Capuchin Tertiary Fathers and Brothers of Our Lady of Sorrows. He was born on 22 August 1874 in Torrent, Valencia, Spain.

From a young age, José María exhibited strong religious devotion, and he decided to dedicate his life to God and the service of others. He joined the Capuchin Tertiary Fathers and Brothers, an order known for its commitment to poverty, prayer, and contemplation.

Throughout his priesthood, Father José María Llópez Mora lived a life of deep piety, humility, and selflessness. He dedicated himself to the spiritual care of the faithful and the promotion of devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows, a devotion deeply rooted in the Capuchin tradition.

Tragically, Father José María's life was cut short during the Spanish Civil War, a period marked by intense religious persecution. He was martyred for his Catholic faith on 18 September 1936, in Torrent, Valencia, Spain.

In recognition of his virtue and sacrifice, Father José María Llópez Mora was venerated by the Catholic Church on 18 December 2000, through a decree of martyrdom issued by Pope John Paul II. He was officially beatified on 11 March 2001, by the same pope.
