Biography

Blessed José Peris Ramos, also known as José Ramos Peris, was a priest in the archdiocese of Granada, Spain, who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 2 February 1869 in Vélez-Málaga, Malaga, Spain, and dedicated his life to serving God and his community as a faithful Catholic priest.

Throughout his ministry, Blessed José Peris Ramos exhibited great devotion to his parishioners, offering spiritual guidance and pastoral care to all who sought his help. Known for his kind and gentle demeanor, he was deeply loved and respected by the people he served.

Tragically, during the turbulent period of the Spanish Civil War, when religious persecution was rampant, Blessed José Peris Ramos became a victim of his commitment to his faith. On 2 August 1936, he was martyred in Rambla de Albuñol, Granada, Spain, remaining steadfast in his allegiance to Christ until his last breath.

Blessed José Peris Ramos' beatification process began many years after his death, with his cause for sainthood being formally opened by the Catholic Church. On 14 June 2016, Pope Francis decreed his martyrdom, recognizing his ultimate sacrifice for his faith. The beatification ceremony took place on 25 March 2017, presided by Cardinal Angelo Amato, in the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos de Aguadulce, Almería, Spain.

Today, Blessed José Peris Ramos is venerated as a martyr and a shining example of unwavering faith and dedication to God. His feast day is celebrated annually on 2 August, the day of his martyrdom.
