Biography

Blessed Josefa Martínez Pérez, also known as Blessed Josefa Martínez Pérez, was a nun and a member of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul. She was born on 5 August 1897 in Alberique, Valencia, Spain.

At a young age, Josefa felt a strong calling to religious life and joined the Daughters of Charity, a religious congregation dedicated to helping the poor and marginalized. She dedicated her life to serving others and spreading love and compassion.

During the Spanish Civil War, a time of political and social unrest in Spain, Josefa bravely continued her mission of caring for the poor and vulnerable. However, her unwavering commitment to her faith and her dedication to serving others resulted in her persecution.

On 15 October 1936, Blessed Josefa Martínez Pérez was martyred in Llosa de Ranes, Valencia, Spain, for her refusal to renounce her religious beliefs. She faced persecution with courage and strength, remaining steadfast in her faith until the end.

Her life and sacrifice did not go unnoticed. On 27 June 2011, Pope Benedict XVI officially declared Josefa Martínez Pérez as venerable, recognizing her heroic virtues. Then, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified her, bestowing upon her the title of "Blessed."

Her feast day is celebrated on 15 October, commemorating the day of her martyrdom and honoring her as a model of faith, service, and martyrdom. Blessed Josefa Martínez Pérez serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us to be courageous and selfless in the face of adversity.
