Biography

Blessed Joseph Chamayoux Auclés, also known as Brother Jacob Samuel, was a devoted member of the Salesians, a religious congregation founded by Saint John Bosco. He was born on April 21, 1884, in Pomardelle, Tarn, France. From an early age, Joseph exhibited exceptional piety and a strong inclination towards the religious life.

Growing up, Joseph received a quality education and demonstrated a natural aptitude for teaching. Inspired by his faith and a desire to serve others, he joined the Salesians and was ordained as a priest. Throughout his religious life, Joseph dedicated himself to educating young people, drawing them closer to God and nurturing their spiritual growth.

However, during a tumultuous period in history, the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War brought immense suffering and violence to the country. Joseph, committed to his mission, unwaveringly continued his work amidst the chaos, providing solace and guidance to those in need.

Tragically, on August 18, 1936, in Cortingles, Urgel, Lleida, Spain, Blessed Joseph Chamayoux Auclés was martyred, becoming a witness to his unwavering faith and dedication to Christ. The exact details surrounding his martyrdom remain a testament to his commitment to his calling and love for God.

Recognizing his sacrifice and the virtues he exemplified, Pope John Paul II declared Joseph Chamayoux Auclés venerable on June 22, 2004, attributing his martyrdom to his unwavering faith and allegiance to God. Later, Pope Benedict XVI, on October 28, 2007, beatified him, bestowing upon him the title "Blessed Joseph Chamayoux Auclés."

Blessed Joseph Chamayoux Auclés serves as an inspiration and intercessor for those seeking guidance and strength in their faith journey. His life stands as a reminder of the immense sacrifices made by dedicated religious individuals during times of persecution, offering solace and hope to believers around the world.
