Biography

Blessed Julian Cesarello De Valle, also known as Blessed Julian of Valle, was born into the nobility in the late 13th century in Valle, Istria, which was part of the Venetian Republic (in modern Croatia). From his early years, Julian showed a deep devotion to God, prompting him to join the Franciscan order as a teenager.

Julian's commitment to his faith was evident throughout his life. As a priest, he became renowned for his powerful preaching, captivating audiences with his words and inspiring them to lead lives centered on God's teachings. His reputation as a persuasive and eloquent orator quickly spread throughout the region.

One of the distinguishing aspects of Julian's character was his austere lifestyle and strict adherence to the Franciscan rule. He embraced a simple and humble existence, willingly renouncing material possessions and worldly desires to deepen his spiritual connection with God. His dedication to poverty and self-denial earned him great respect among his peers and the wider community.

In addition to his ascetic practices, Julian was well-known for his unwavering charity towards the poor and marginalized. His heart overflowed with compassion, and he tirelessly worked to alleviate the suffering of those in need. Through his acts of kindness and generosity, Julian embodied the teachings of Christ, becoming a beacon of hope and love for all who encountered him.

Blessed Julian Cesarello De Valle lived his entire adult life in the convent of Michael the Archangel near Valle. Upon his death in approximately 1349, he was buried there. According to legend, the cask containing his relics miraculously grew heavier the farther they went until it became immovable. The only the residents of Valle were able to pick it up, prompting them to return the relics to Julian's hometown.

Blessed Julian Cesarello De Valle's holiness and exemplary life led to his beatification.
