Biography
Blessed Liberio González Nombela was born on December 30, 1895, in Santa Ana de Pusa, Toledo, Spain. He was a devout Catholic who dedicated his life to serving God and His people. Liberio felt a calling to the priesthood early on and entered the seminary to pursue his vocation.
After completing his studies, Liberio was ordained as a priest and began his pastoral ministry in the Archdiocese of Toledo. He served faithfully, leading his flock with love and compassion, and became a beloved figure in the local community.
Tragically, during the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution was rampant, and many priests and religious were targeted for their faith. Sadly, Blessed Liberio González Nombela became a martyr of the war, giving his life for his beliefs. He was martyred on August 18, 1936, in Torrijos, Toledo, Spain.
The martyrdom of Blessed Liberio González Nombela did not go unnoticed, as his unwavering faith and sacrifice touched the hearts of many. Recognizing his heroic virtue, Pope Benedict XVI declared him venerable on April 28, 2006, and later beatified him on October 28, 2007.
