Biography

Blessed Luis Francés Toledano, also known as Luis Toledano, was born on 16 February 1910 in Madrid, Spain. He was a member of the Claretians, a religious congregation founded by Saint Anthony Mary Claret.

Luis Francés Toledano professed as a member of the Claretians on 31 August 1926, dedicating his life to serving God and his fellow human beings. He was ordained as a priest on 26 May 1934, embarking on his journey to spread the message of Christ and provide spiritual guidance to the faithful.

During the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, which took place from 1936 to 1939, Blessed Luis Francés Toledano bravely remained committed to his religious beliefs amidst the prevailing chaos and violence. Later, on 21 October 2017, Pope Francis beatified Luis Francés Toledano at the Basilica of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. The beatification ceremony was presided over by Archbishop Angelo Amato, who represented the Pope. This significant event celebrated the recognition of his sanctity and his intercession for the faithful.

Blessed Luis Francés Toledano's feast day is celebrated on 21 August, which is observed as the feast day of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs. Additionally, he is also honored on 1 February, specifically as one of the 109 Spanish Claretian Martyrs.
