Biography

Blessed Magí Albaigés Escoda, also known as Magí Albaigés or Father Magí, was a Catholic priest in the archdiocese of Tarragona, Spain. He was born on 23 May 1889 in Albi, Lleida, Spain, to a devout Catholic family. From a young age, Magí showed a deep spiritual inclination and felt a calling to serve God and his Church.

After completing his education, Magí was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Tarragona, where he carried out his pastoral duties with great dedication and fervor. Known for his compassionate nature and spiritual guidance, he was highly respected by his parishioners and fellow clergy.

Tragically, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Magí Albaigés Escoda faced persecution due to his unwavering commitment to his faith. The war brought about a wave of anti-Catholic sentiment, and many priests became targets of violence and oppression. Despite the imminent danger, Father Magí remained steadfast in his commitment to preaching the Gospel and providing spiritual support to his community.

On 20 August 1936, Father Magí was martyred in Tarragona, Spain. He courageously embraced his fate, offering his life as a testament to his unwavering faith in Christ. His ultimate sacrifice serves as a symbol of the countless men and women who suffered persecution during the Spanish Civil War for their unwavering allegiance to their Catholic beliefs.

After years of veneration and with the recognition of his martyrdom, Pope Benedict XVI declared Magí Albaigés Escoda as Blessed on 28 June 2012. The beatification ceremony, celebrating his blessed status, took place on 13 October 2013 in Tarragona, Spain, with Pope Francis leading the event.

Today, Blessed Magí Albaigés Escoda is revered as a shining example of faith and fortitude in the face of adversity.
