Biography

Blessed Manuel Solórzano, also known as Manuel Solórzano and Eleuteria Antonia Guillén, was a devout Catholic layman who lived a faithful and dedicated life in the archdiocese of San Salvador, El Salvador. He was born around 1905 in the town of Suchitoto, located in the Cuscatlán department of El Salvador.

Manuel Solórzano married Eleuteria Antonia Guillén and together they had ten children. As a loving husband and dedicated father, Manuel worked tirelessly to provide for his family. In the town of Aguilares, Chile, he made a living selling seeds and cattle.

However, Manuel's life took a tragic turn when he became a victim of the political unrest and violence that plagued El Salvador during that time. On the fateful Saturday of March 12, 1977, Manuel was on his way to serve at the Saturday night Mass when he was brutally murdered by members of the El Salvadoran security forces. His unwavering commitment to his faith and his desire to serve God and his community cost him his life.

Manuel Solórzano's martyrdom is a testament to his steadfast devotion to his Catholic faith and his unwavering commitment to his beliefs, even in the face of persecution and violence. His life serves as an inspiration to all believers, reminding them of the importance of faith, resilience, and unwavering dedication to God.

Recognizing his profound sacrifice and the example he set, Manuel Solórzano was venerated by Pope Francis on February 21, 2020, who issued a decree of martyrdom for him. The beatification ceremony took place on January 22, 2022, where he was honored as Blessed Manuel Solórzano.
