Biography

Blessed María Del Carmen Alejandra Cabrera Llergo De Blanco, also known as Blessed Alejandra Cabrera, was a married laywoman from the diocese of Córdoba, Spain. She was born on 21 September 1886 in Pozoblanco, Córdoba, Spain.

Alejandra Cabrera lived a devout and pious life, deeply rooted in her Catholic faith. As a layperson, she sought holiness through her vocation as a wife and mother. She was known for her love and dedication to her family, as well as her commitment to the teachings of the Church.

During the Spanish Civil War, which erupted in 1936, Spain was engulfed in a violent and chaotic period of social and political unrest. As the conflict intensified, Catholics became targets of persecution due to their faith. Alejandra Cabrera, along with her husband, found themselves caught in the midst of this turbulent period.

Despite the grave risks involved, Alejandra and her husband remained steadfast in their commitment to their Catholic beliefs. They bravely stood up against the forces that sought to oppress and silence their faith. However, their courageous witness to the Gospel would ultimately cost them their lives.

Tragically, on 20 September 1936, Alejandra Cabrera was martyred for her unwavering fidelity to Christ and His Church. She was murdered in her hometown of Pozoblanco, Córdoba, Spain, where she had lived and practiced her faith.

María Del Carmen Alejandra Cabrera Llergo De Blanco's martyrdom was a testimony to her unwavering faith and commitment to Christ, even in the face of extreme persecution. In recognition of her martyrdom and virtuous life, María Del Carmen Alejandra Cabrera Llergo De Blanco was proclaimed venerable by Pope Francis on 23 November 2020. Her beatification ceremony took place on 16 October 2021 at the Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Córdoba, Spain. The ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro.

Blessed Alejandra Cabrera's life continues to inspire and serve as a shining example of courage, faith, and dedication to Christ for all Catholic faithful. Her memory is honored annually on her feast day, which is celebrated on 20 September.
