Biography

Blessed Marcolinus Amanni, also known as Marcolinus of Forli, Marcolino Amannai da Forli, Mark the Mute, or simply Marcolino, was born in 1317 in Forli, Emilia, Italy. At the tender age of ten, Marcolinus joined the Dominican Order in Forli and embraced their Rule, which he lived by faithfully for an impressive 70 years.

Renowned for his exceptional simplicity of life, Marcolinus was known to embrace a lifestyle characterized by quiet and solitude. He had a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and he carried a picture of her with him at all times. It is said that Marcolinus conversed with Mary, engaging in two-way conversations that witnesses attested to, adding to the spiritual mystique surrounding this holy figure.

Throughout his life, Marcolinus dedicated himself to serving the poor and children, embodying the compassionate and charitable ideals of his faith. Additionally, he devoted considerable time to a life of prayer, seeking spiritual communion with God and drawing strength from his devout practice.

Marcolinus also possessed a unique gift for counseling and inspiring faith in his fellow brothers. His ability to counsel and re-invigorate the faith of those around him made a lasting impact, and he actively supported the reform work of Blessed Raymond of Capua, who was known for his contributions to the Dominican Order.

Upon Marcolinus's death on January 24, 1397, in Forli, Italy, an angel in the form of a beautiful child reportedly walked through the streets, announcing his passing before mysteriously disappearing. He was laid to rest in the cathedral in Forli, where his memory is revered to this day.

In recognition of his exemplary life and holiness, Marcolinus was beatified on May 9, 1750, by Pope Benedict XIV, who confirmed the cultus surrounding him. His feast days are celebrated on January 24 and also January 2 on some calendars.

Blessed Marcolinus Amanni's legacy is one of devout service, profound simplicity, and a deep connection with the Blessed Virgin Mary. He continues to inspire and guide believers through his intercession, showing the transformative power of a life dedicated to prayer and selfless service.
