Biography

Blessed Maximiano Fierro Pérez, also known as Brother Ángel Amado, was a devout Catholic and a member of the Christian Brothers. He was born on August 21, 1905, in Alfamén, Zaragoza, Spain. Although not much is known specifically about his life, his deep commitment to his faith and his religious vocation as a Brother left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Brother Ángel Amado courageously held on to his beliefs and continued his religious work amidst the growing hostility towards the Catholic Church. The Christian Brothers, dedicated to education and caring for the marginalized, became targets of persecution during this time, and many members of the congregation lost their lives at the hands of anti-Catholic factions.

Tragically, Blessed Maximiano Fierro Pérez met a similar fate as he was martyred on September 1, 1936, in Tortosa, Tarragona, Spain. His unwavering faith and unwavering commitment to his religious calling led him to stand firm in the face of adversity, ultimately sacrificing his life for his beliefs and the Church he served.

Years after his martyrdom, the exemplary life of Maximiano Fierro Pérez came to the attention of the Catholic Church. On June 28, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, recognizing Brother Ángel Amado's heroic sacrifice for the faith. His beatification ceremony took place on October 13, 2013, in Tarragona, Spain, and was presided over by Pope Francis.

Blessed Maximiano Fierro Pérez's life serves as a testament to the strength and resilience of those who remain steadfast in their devotion to God, even in times of great adversity.
