Biography

Blessed Miguel Aguado Camarillo was born on April 3, 1903, in Humanes, Guadalajara, Spain. He lived a devout Catholic life as a married layman in the archdiocese of Madrid. Miguel was a member of the Association of the Miraculous Medal, an organization dedicated to spreading devotion to Our Lady through the wearing and promotion of the Miraculous Medal.

During the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, when religious persecution was rampant, Miguel courageously stood firm in his faith. Despite the dangerous circumstances, he openly professed his Catholic beliefs and remained steadfast in his devotion to God.

Tragically, on November 27, 1936, Miguel was martyred in Paracuellos de Jarama, Madrid, as a result of the religious persecution carried out during the war. He fearlessly witnessed to his faith until his last breath, refusing to renounce his Catholicism despite the imminent threat to his life.

Recognizing the exemplary virtue and sacrifice of Blessed Miguel Aguado Camarillo, on March 23, 2017, Pope Francis decreed his martyrdom, acknowledging his heroic death as a result of hatred for the faith. This decree led to his official recognition as a blessed of the Catholic Church.

Subsequently, on November 11, 2017, Pope Francis presided over the beatification ceremony of Blessed Miguel Aguado Camarillo. The event took place at the Palacio Vistalegre Arena in Carabanchel, Madrid, Spain. The ceremony, attended by Cardinal Angelo Amato and Cardinal Carlos Osoro Sierra of Madrid, was a joyful celebration of Miguel's life and martyrdom.

Blessed Miguel Aguado Camarillo's feast day is commemorated on November 27 each year, the date of his martyrdom. He is remembered for his unwavering faith, staunch commitment to the Catholic Church, and sacrifice in the face of religious persecution during a dark period in Spanish history.
