Biography
Blessed Nicasio Romo Rubio, born on December 14, 1891, in Castillejo del Romeral, Cuenca, Spain, was a Dominican friar who became a martyr during the Spanish Civil War. His feast day is celebrated on August 30th.
Nicasio Romo Rubio joined the Dominican Order and dedicated his life to the service of God and the Church. He was known for his deep spirituality, his strong faith, and his commitment to spreading the Gospel message. Nicasio was zealous in his duties as a friar, faithfully carrying out his vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
However, during the turbulent years of the Spanish Civil War, religious persecution gripped Spain, particularly targeting Catholics and members of religious orders. Amidst this hostile environment, Nicasio Romo Rubio refused to renounce his faith and abandon his calling as a Dominican friar.
On August 30, 1936, in Madrid, Spain, Nicasio Romo Rubio was martyred for his unwavering commitment to Christ. He suffered a violent death, becoming a witness to the faith and a symbol of the persecution faced by countless Catholics during that tumultuous period.
Recognizing his heroic virtue and the supreme sacrifice he made for his faith, Nicasio Romo Rubio was venerated on June 26, 2006, by Pope Benedict XVI, who decreed his martyrdom. Blessed Nicasio Romo Rubio's beatification ceremony took place on October 28, 2007, also under the papacy of Benedict XVI.
