Biography
Blessed Nicola Paglia was born to the Italian nobility. In his youth, he received a vision of an angel who warned him not to eat meat, foretelling that he would one day join a religious order with a permanent rule of abstinence. While studying at the university in Bologna, Italy, Nicola heard the preaching of Saint Dominic de Guzman and was so moved that he resolved to follow the great founder. He entered the Order of Preachers and became one of the early Dominican friars, dedicating his life to preaching, study, and the service of the Church. His fidelity to the Dominican rule of prayer, poverty, and abstinence exemplified the ideals that Saint Dominic had set forth for his order.
