Biography
Blessed Pau Bori Puig was a Jesuit priest and martyr who lived during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 12 November 1864 in Vilet de Maldá, Tarragona, Spain, and later dedicated his life to serving God and the Catholic Church.
Father Pau Bori Puig entered the Society of Jesus and was ordained as a priest, where he embarked on a mission of dispensing spiritual guidance and teaching. His commitment to his faith and his love for the people he served earned him great respect and admiration among both his fellow clergy and the community.
Sadly, during the Spanish Civil War, Father Pau Bori Puig became a victim of religious persecution. On 29 September 1936, he was martyred in the town of Benimaclet, Valencia, Spain, sacrificing his life rather than renouncing his faith.
His steadfast devotion to God even in the face of extreme danger solidified his reputation as a true martyr.
After his death, the memory of Father Pau Bori Puig continued to inspire others. His exemplary life and his courageous martyrdom gained recognition, and on 20 December 1999, Pope John Paul II declared him venerable, affirming his heroic virtues. Finally, on 11 March 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified Father Pau Bori Puig, recognizing him officially as a blessed.
Blessed Pau Bori Puig's feast day is celebrated on 29 September, commemorating the day of his martyrdom. His beatification serves as an example of great faith and devotion, encouraging all Catholics to persevere in their beliefs, even in the face of adversity.
