Blessed Pau Figuerola Rovira

Blessed Pau Figuerola Rovira, also known as Paul Figuerola Rovira, was a Catholic priest in the archdiocese of Tarragona, Spain, who was martyred during the Spanish Civil War. He was born on 9 December 1870 in L’Espluga de Francolí, a small town in the province of Tarragona.

Father Pau Figuerola Rovira dedicated his life to serving God and his community as a priest. Ordained on an unknown date, he faithfully carried out his pastoral duties in the archdiocese of Tarragona, providing spiritual guidance and sacraments to the faithful.

Tragically, during the tumultuous period of the Spanish Civil War, Father Pau Figuerola Rovira became a victim of religious persecution. On 12 August 1936, he was martyred in Vinaixa, a town located in the province of Lleida, Spain. He courageously endured persecution and a martyr's death for the sake of his faith and commitment to his priestly vocation.

Father Pau Figuerola Rovira's life and sacrifice were recognized and honored by the Catholic Church. On 28 June 2012, Pope Benedict XVI issued a decree of martyrdom, officially recognizing him as a martyr. Later, on 13 October 2013, Pope Francis beatified him, proclaiming him as Blessed Pau Figuerola Rovira.

His beatification ceremony took place in Tarragona, Spain, where he had faithfully served as a priest. This special event was a celebration of his life, martyrdom, and the faith he upheld until his final breath.
