Biography

Blessed Pietro Becchetti Da Fabriano, also known as Brother Pietro, was a devout Augustinian priest and brother of Blessed Giovanni da Fabriano Becchetti. Born in the 14th century in Fabriano, Italy, he displayed a deep devotion to his faith from a young age. He showed great potential for education and wisdom, eventually leading him to pursue scholarly studies in Padua, Italy, in the year 1385.

After completing his studies, Brother Pietro joined the Augustinian order and began his teaching career at the Augustinian school in Rimini, Italy. His profound knowledge of Sacred Theology and his personal piety made him a respected and beloved teacher among his students and colleagues. Recognizing his exceptional qualities, he was appointed as the Professor of Sacred Theology in Venice, Italy, where he continued to inspire and educate others.

Brother Pietro's spiritual journey led him to embark on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, seeking a deeper connection to the Holy Land. Inspired by his experiences there, he returned to Fabriano and built a chapel resembling the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem at the Augustinian church. His intention was to bring a piece of the sacred land closer to the people of his hometown, allowing them to feel the presence of Christ.

Throughout his life, Brother Pietro was known for his profound prayer life and his eloquent preaching. His sermons touched the hearts of many and brought the message of God's love and mercy to the faithful. His dedication to his vocation and his compassion for others made a lasting impact on all those who encountered him.

Following his death in Fabriano, Italy, his relics were enshrined in the church of Sant'Agostino, becoming a place of veneration for the faithful. On July 2nd, Blessed Pietro Becchetti Da Fabriano is honored by the Augustinians in remembrance of his virtuous life and contributions to the Church. Pope Gregory XVI beatified him in 1835, confirming his cultus and recognizing his holiness.
