Biography

Blessed Pietro Spagnoli, also known as Pietro of Urbino, was born in Urbino, Italy. As a young man, he entered the religious order of Gerolamini, specifically joining the Hermits of Saint Jerome. He dedicated most of his adult life to the Gerolamini community, residing in their house in Montebello, Italy.

Pietro's intense piety and deep devotion to God were evident throughout his life. His profound faith and commitment to a life of prayer and solitude earned him the admiration and respect of his fellow monks. As a result, he became known as a very pious man and a revered member of the order.

After many years of communal living, Pietro made the decision to retire from the structured life of the Gerolamini community to live as a hermit. He settled near Urbino, Italy, seeking a more solitary existence to deepen his relationship with God. Despite his chosen seclusion, his reputation as a holy and devout man continued to grow.

Tragically, Pietro Spagnoli passed away on June 15, 1415, at the hospice for the sick located at the Gerolamini house of San Giovanni Battista near Urbino. His death was a profound loss to those who had come to know him and witness his unwavering faith.

As a testament to his holiness and the profound impact he had on those who knew him, devotion to Pietro Spagnoli developed soon after his passing. Many sought his intercession and reported experiencing spiritual consolations and miraculous healings in response to their prayers.

Pietro was laid to rest under the side altar in the church of San Giovanni Battista the Forerunner, located in the Gerolamini house. The church became a site of veneration for those seeking his intercession and desiring to honor his memory.

In recognition of his sanctity and the devotion he inspired, the relics of Blessed Pietro Spagnoli were enshrined in a crystal urn under the main altar of the church. This revered location served as a focal point for pilgrims and faithful followers to offer their prayers and seek his heavenly assistance.

While the specific details of his beatification and any subsequent canonization are unfortunately unavailable, the continued devotion and recognition of Pietro Spagnoli as a blessed and holy figure highlight the impact he made during his lifetime and beyond. His example of a life dedicated to prayer, solitude, and piety serves as an inspiration to many, and his memory lives on as a reminder of the transformative power of faith and devotion.
